Microsoft Data Access Components

The Speed Test stores all of its configuration, servers and past tests in databases. In order to access these databases, the Speed Test requires you to have the Microsoft Data Access Components installed on your system. Most systems already have these installed, however some (particularly on older versions of Windows) do not. Some computers may also have mismatched files, causing errors.

The MDAC can be downloaded as a package from Microsoft and is simple to install. Download the file, run it and follow the installation instructions. It may be necessary to reboot your computer after installation. There is no charge for installing these files on your computer.

Download instructions:
Click one of the links below to begin the download. If prompted, select the 'open' or 'run from current location' option. When the download has completed, click 'yes' to any security messages or installation confirmation messages.

If you have Windows 98, 2000, ME or Windows XP:
Download mdac_typ.exe from Microsoft.com (version 2.8 - 5.4MB)

If you have Windows NT4 only:
Download mdac_typ.exe from Microsoft.com (version 2.5 - 7.7MB)
