Problems caused by Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall

Errors that you may experience:
- Error 9998 (Timeout) when first using the Speed Test
- Error 13 (Type Mismatch) when running a Speed Test
- No upload test result in the registered version

Norton Personal Firewall and Norton Internet Security both have a bug in them which prevents the Speed Test from accessing its own server, even if you tell it to allow access. Norton doesn't stop the Speed Test accessing any other server, it just prevents access to broadbandspeedtest.net, which the speed test needs in order to download server data files and perform upload tests.

In some situations, Norton Internet Security can also cause the Speed Test to crash with Error 13 (Type Mismatch), or will prevent the upload test from returning a valid result. No other firewall software causes this behaviour.

Until Symantec fix this problem, a patch has been released which will get around the bug caused by Norton. Please note that at no time will this patch turn off your firewall.
